Thomas is becoming a real pain with his afternoon nap! He used to have his lunch at midday and shortly after have a nap in his buggy. But he is becoming so stubborn with his nap keeping himself awake he can be irritable by mid afternoon but still refuse to sleep. Its driving me mad I do enjoy that 45 minute of catch up time, where I clean up and tidy round to get ready for the afternoons play. Thomas having a nap also gives me the chance to have a break and grab something to eat while I can. Its surprising how that short break can make you feel refreshed and ready for more activities and fun if I dont have it I can feel tired and irritable myself.

Thomas went from having two good naps in his cot during the day, to one nap in his buggy and now were slowly edging towards no naps during the day! This does worry me as I know sleep is good for their development and growth. How much sleep does a 1 year old need? I must admit he is a good sleeper at night apart from still waking for a feed but he will go straight back to sleep after some milk. We put him to bed around 7pm and he wakes at around 8am with a quick bottle feed usually 5am which I dont understand why he is still doing this to be honest, I am hoping he will quickly grow out of it.

If Thomas is getting enough sleep during the night then I wouldnt worry as much about his daytime nap I think i’ll mention it when I take him to the baby clinic again. I have noticed if he has an action packed day usually if he is with both of his nannies then he is more tired as they seem to tire him out with their games. I think I will keep my eye on him and mention it next time i am at the clinic. There is nothing worse then an irritable baby especially when its getting towards the end of the day and he has not had a nap all he wants to do is sleep but you cant let them sleep as its their bed time soon – I am sure many mums can relate to this, share your experiences by leaving a comment I would love to read them!

Last night I found myself back 12 months ago driving Thomas around in the early hours in the morning to try to get him to sleep. He has been really unsettled this week not getting to sleep until late and waking throughout the night for milk. Thomas has a cold he has a cough and sneezes I feel really sorry for him at the moment as he is out of sorts not himself, he is very snotty which is blocking his nose making it difficult to eat or drink. Ive been worried about him as he has been off his food. It was only a month ago Thomas was in hospitalised with Bronchilitus and a chest infection, he had problems with his breathing, so its not surprising I have been really worried about him and keeping a close eye on him this week.

Throughout the time Thomas was in hospital and every day since I have been close to him, keeping him safe and well. You could almost say I have mothered him, but we came close to almost losing him I never want that to happen again, he’s my baby I am here to love and protect him. This has made me going back to work tomorrow really hard, I am putting off going to bed as I dont want tomorrow to come! I only work a couple of days but its hard, especially as we have been unseparable thoughout the Christmas holidays.

I hope that Thomas is over the worse now with his cold he does seem to be sleeping better tonight, although I am expecting him to wake in the early hours for a feed as he has not eaten much today. Ive got to be on the ball tomorrow we can’t be lying in no matter how much he is up in the night, I’ve got to be up and have us both ready to start work at 8:30am its a pain starting so early but my choice as I finish earlier so I can give Thomas his tea as normal.
