Today Nathan and I decided to take Thomas on a fun day at the Thomas the tank engine and friends day at the East Lancashire Railway. It was a fantastic day, all the trains were made up to represent Thomas the tank engine and his friends, they had activities, face painting, family fun and much more! Thomas loved the steam train, he was a little unsure at first with the noise from the steam train, but when it started to move he had such a big smile on his face. He kept making Choo Choo noises over and over, he loves watching Thomas the tank engine on the TV, seeing the engines live and up close was amazing to him! It was the first time Thomas has ever been on a train too so it was an extra special day, we loved seeing him enjoying himself  so much today.

After enjoying a full day at the east lancashire railway Thomas enjoyed a few hours with his nannie, my mum – Me and my mum had a good catch up, as we havn’t had much time to see eachother this bank holiday with one thing or another. Thomas enjoyed his fish pie tea at nannies and played with his toy cars on the wooden floor.

Nathan and I are just chilling now, its been a full on day! We left the house at 9am this morning and got home around 3pm – As were both tied we have treated ourselves to a takeaway and are watching the TV on the sofa. Thomas is fast asleep in his cot, he went to bed early tonight 6:30pm! He was tired from such an eventful day, I hope he is dreaming about his fun family day and how he is loved so much from his mamma and dadda :-)    xxx

We were thinking of going on holiday later on this year, but where is the best holiday location for a 1 year old? We’ve not been away for a few years now as we’ve had the house to decorate then we had the wedding to pay for etc etc! a holiday break has always been put to the back of our pile of things to do. Now Thomas is one I am thinking is this the right time to go away, he has such a good structured night time routine that works most nights is it really worth the risk to upset things? A holiday would be nice but is it really worth not sleeping for the duration of the holiday and having a grouchy baby. I don’t know for sure if this will happen but it is a risk I would rather not take to be honest. Thomas has never been the type of baby who sleeps easily, he is not one for cuddles and sleeping in my arms! I rely on milk to sooth him back to sleep if he wake in the night or Calpol if he shows signs of irritation. There is no way I could rock him back to sleep, he won’t even go to sleep lay next to me on my bed he has to be in his cot, which I suppose is a good thing.

I feel it would be difficult to amuse a 1 year old, what with a change in sleeping patterns, Nathan and I would probably come home more tired then before we left! We would need a holiday after it :-) Another solution would be to take a few days out during the summer where we go to different places during the day as a family and come home at night. For instance one day we could visit the zoo, another day go to the beach, then maybe a children’s fun fair. This option may be best as we could probably still keep the same bedtime routine, although things may work out being a little later then normal we could still get Thomas settled for the night.

We’re not thinking of taking Thomas abroad yet for a good few years as we both agree he is too young for that, what with the climate change, change in foods and drinking water its not worth the risk. It looks like by writing this blog I have answered my own question, I think we will stick to taking Thomas out for a few days coming home at night, that way we enjoy family time and see Thomas with new experiences and still get a decent nights sleep at the end of the day.
