I looked out of the window this morning and saw a clear sunny day not a cloud in the sky, I thought to myself this is fantastic I can finally take Thomas to the park and let him have a go on the swing! He hasn’t been on the swings since last summer when he was only around 6 months old, so he wouldnt remember them. Nathan and I have taken him to the park over the winter but its been hat, gloves, covers, cozy toes, thick coat…..All you can see is Thomas’ eyes poking out
Dont get me wrong although its been a bright sunny day it has been cold and quite bitter, so hats, scarf, blankets etc have been needed, although I actually got him out of his buggy today and let him have a go on the swings rather then a brisk walk through the park and back home which is how it has been over the winter.
Nevertheless the swings were unsurprisingly empty, we had the run of the park! Thomas loved swinging on the baby swings – I then walked around the playground with him showing him all the exciting things he can play on when he can toddle about.
After a quick go on the swings I took him for a walk around the park then we headed home, as usual Thomas decided to close his eyes to go to sleep just as we got back to the front door! So to ensure he got into a good sleep before going in the house I took him for a walk around the block. I am now enjoying a nice warm coffee and a peaceful half hour writing about my favorite topic in the whole world…My baby and being a first time mummy.

I took Thomas to a playgroup today in the local church – It is a good playgroup there are always lots of toys to play with, the children have toast and juice half way through, and nursery rhymes are sang at the end. The playgroup is aimed at pre school aged children, there is a baby area for the younger ones and then older toys scattered throughout the hall. It gives both parents and children the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and enjoy a change of scenery as having a young child you can feel a little trapped at times.
This morning I noticed a little boy around 2 and a half who was quite loud and boystrous, he was running about charging past people pushing and shoving etc. I was sat with Thomas on the floor playing with a xylophone, before I knew it this little lad took the xylophone and threw it on the floor hitting Thomas in the eye. Thomas instantly cried as he had a red mark on his eye! I was so angry that the parents of the boy did not intervene or say anything to him. My main priority was to get a cold compress on Thomas’ eye to prevent any swelling. After Thomas had calmed down and began playing again I culd hear the boy screaming pulling a tantrum, his parents again not concerned! It really angered me today, I always make the point to watch Thomas if I see him even trying to touch or push another baby I am there making sure he is not rough! Is it too much to expect the same in return for my child?
From that moment on I was watching Thomas like a hawk, making sure he didn’t go anywhere near the boystrous lad, as soon as he got anywhere near I picked Thomas up and moved him away. I am sure I am not alone in my thoughts on this matter? Please share your playgroup experiences by leaving a comment below.
