Thomas has been sitting unaided now for around a month and half, he is getting really good at sitting and playing on the mat. I still surround him with pillows to cushion his fall just in case he has a wobble, although he only really falls if he reaches too far for a toy just out of his reach. I love watching him play, watching how he inspects his toys, how he behaves – Its really funny when something catches his eye, for example the floor lamp is on next to him, he will look at it, then look away at something else, a few seconds later I know he will look at the lamp again, look away and then again back at the lamp. When he plays he prefers to look at things and inspect them, he seems to be a bit of a thinker a trait he has from Nathan.

The past couple of weeks I have noticed that Thomas wants to move around a bit more, he is not content with sitting alone. He rolls himself on the floor onto his tummy, lifts up with his arms, then when he’s tired he will roll onto his back. I think he wants to crawl, but he doesn’t have the strength in his arms or legs yet, he is big for his age, being a 10lb baby at birth he is a good solid build which can make it harder to get around. I have a feeling it wont be long until he is crawling, he wants to move about, as soon as I lie him down to change him he is rolling over, which can be a little frustrating when trying to clean a dirty nappy :) I keep telling myself that when he is crawling he will be a much bigger handful so I shouldn’t complain about him now, at least I can roll him back at the moment.

So, right now Thomas is sitting well and playing, then he will suddenly get bored and decide to fall with style into a roll to get about. He has done a bit of rocking front to back on his legs when sat up, this just makes my heart skip a beat as I imagine him falling on his face! Its so hard I want to encourage him to develop his own movement, but I dont want to see him get hurt – You can tell I am a first time mum :)
